Shrimp Boats

During the early 1990s the little town of Apalatchicola, in the Florida panhandle, was the base for these old wooden-hulled shrimp boats. It was a working fishing port, with mismatched  sheds, old oil drums, assorted wooden palettes and piles of rusting wire rope. It was the perfect spot for a curious painter in watercolours, and I visited it several times. Unfortunately I was never lucky enough to catch the fishermen at work. They were either at sea or were simply off-duty. This painting was based on a pre-digital camera panoramic shot taken early on a fine early Spring day.
