Lily
Probably done around 1942, this coloured pencil drawing of a lily carries on my interest in detail. In the days when art schools taught you how to draw properly, this would have been a live plant in a vase. We drew from plaster casts of Beethoven, blankets over chairs, and cubes, pyramids and globes. We learned perspective and drew from live models, clothed and unclothed. We went on outdoor painting trips and art gallery visits.
