In 1970 I began to paint watercolours again, just about the time we decided to build our own house in the country outside Toronto. The ensuing years were so busy my new-found hobby had to be postponed again.
My late wife and I officially retired in 1987 and ran a B&B for six years in Wellington, Ontario, a lovely little village on Lake Ontario. By 1989 we were spending our winters in Destin, Florida, where my mentor, the late Robert Long, was giving lessons in watercolour techniques. He made my retirement years infinitely richer, and I will always marvel at my luck in discovering him at just the right time in my life.
